Industrial Biotechnology

This two-year full-time MSc programme encompasses an in-depth training in various industrially essential areas, such as fermentation, microbiology, drug discovery and synthetic biology. Through this course, students will acquire an applied understanding of the computational tools, analytical methods and how to utilise their advanced knowledge in bio-business to develop relevant and necessary products for the industrial sector.

  • Fundamentals and practice of Synthetic Biology
  • Directed evolution; microbiome, metagenomics and bioinformatics
  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) mitigation
  • Drug discovery; associated regulatory and IP issues
  • Microbial technologies including biocatalysis; re- and upcycling of industrial waste
  • Extremophiles
  • Biosensors
  • Principles of the circular economy and sustainable product design
