The potential use of Biotechnology in the era of high-throughput technologies makes this branch of science crucial for economic growth and societal benefits. The tools of biotechnology provide solutions to the challenges faced by mankind in the field of health, food and environmental conditions. The field is advancing with a rapid pace whether its Next generation sequencing, CRISPR Cas9 based targeted gene editing, biofuel or mRNA vaccines. Gujarat Biotechnology University is committed for strategic investment in biotechnology for the creation of knowledge-driven ecosystems, technologies, economic wealth and for generating highly skilled manpower primed to bring the changes for industry based ease and betterment of man, animal, plant and environmental life in future. It is achievable as some of the top-ranking disruptive technologies in the field of health, environmental remediation, advanced materials, industrial processes and life sciences have biotechnological interventions at their root.

GBU is a policy-driven institution fostering growth of biotechnology through proactive governance, institutional development, sound infrastructure, investment promotion and industry-friendly initiatives. We plan to invest on shaping scientific manpower through training in advanced biotechnological and futuristic tools as well as techniques to achieve the industrial supremacy and self-reliance.

There are limited institutions which aim to train students in biotechnology with entrepreneurial zeal and enthusiasm. To achieve these objectives, Gujarat Biotechnology University is established under the Gujarat Biotechnology University Act 2018. The Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat is providing the leadership, infrastructure as well as funding and has developed a visionary collaboration with the University of Edinburgh (UoE), UK which is ranked 20th via Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2020.

Gujarat Biotechnology University is committed to playing a key role in honing multidisciplinary facets of biotechnology around 5 main domains of Biotechnology, including Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology and Industrial Biotechnology through its M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes. The highly accomplished faculty and state of art research facilities are in place to support the programs. The university has initiated research as well as several educational and training activities looking forward to collaborations with scientists, technologists, industrialists and academicians across the globe.

The fundamental aim of its inception is to provide an enabling ecosystem to promote biotechnology through translational research and product innovation by developing future-ready professionals able to address the challenges of translational research for societal problems. It will create a base for generating scientific & technical manpower, needed for growth and promotion of application oriented, affordable and efficient scientific solutions to make India competitively superior to serve globally.
